Point of View
Many years ago, I was taught the Art by a Master Knife maker and Thrower, his name was Harry McEvoy. He was a fine person and a man that was to become my mentor. I first met with Mac at his home in Grand Rapids Michigan, in approximately 1970. I went to visit him after a phone call to him by me, requesting private lessons with the Knife, primarily throwing at that time. He was very pleasant and cordial, inviting me to visit and "Throw". In the interest of saving you from all of the details, that could take days to read, I will just say, that for many years after our first meeting, I would travel to visit and "Throw" with the person that "Wrote the Book" literally and physically on Knife Throwing. Mac, as he was known respectfully by me, was a person interested in the advancement of the "SPORT". For many years, he tried different things with the hopes of making the "Sport" more understood and accepted by the masses. I still have a certificate hanging in my study dated September 18th 1975, where he issued me a rank in the "ART" of Knife Throwing, similar to the ranking in the Martial Arts. As a Martial Artist, I was cautious and perhaps even a bit skeptical of the power and effectiveness of the thrown weapon. I came to understand many things about the Knife thru the kindness and friendship with Mac. We would throw for hours at a time after the first year of my training, and we had a lot of fun at the same time he, enjoyed teaching, and I, enjoyed learning from a man so knowledgeable and proficient. More to follow on the teachings
of HARRY MCEVOY
